Hey! I am happy to have a great post for today written by Elizabeth at The Thrifty Divas.

We’re all looking for ways to streamline our budget and save money.  It is estimated that women spend nearly 40% of their paycheck to pay for beauty products, hair maintenance and personal care routine.  Wow, that is a huge number!  It’s no secret that women want to look and feel good!

How can we become savvy shoppers when it comes to our beauty care ritual?  Here are some helpful tips to save money while looking and feeling good:

  • Hold a beauty swap meet with friends and neighbors.  Do you really use all of your beauty products anyway?  You’ll save money and put unused makeup to good use.
  • Go green and save! Origins will give you a complimentary skin-care sample when you bring in empty products to be recycled.  M.A.C. also gives a free lipstick when you return six M.A.C. containers to a M.A.C. counter.
  • Extend your lipstick’s life. There is about a quarter-inch more in the tube you can’t see.  Use a brush to scoop out an additional 3 weeks’ worth of color.
  • Ask for samples at the makeup counter.  These are free and it’s a great way to try new products and they are the perfect size for your travel kit.
  • Take it down a notch.  Switch from high-priced brands (from department stores) to mid-tier brands found in mass market stores.  They are usually made by the same manufacturers anyway and will cost you significantly less money.  Consider store brands also.
  • Dry that razor.  Don’t leave your razor in the shower after using it because the blades will rust from the moist, wet environment.  When the blades rust, they become dull.  If you dry the razor after use, it will extend the life of the razor.
  • Touch it up.  Extend your hair color by touching up your roots.  Try tinting your re-growth at home after 6-8 weeks of a salon coloring.
  • Go layered.  Get a layered haircut – it’s by far the lowest maintenance style.  Bobs that have blunt lines need the most upkeep.
  • Trims are free! Ask for free trim of your bangs in between visits.  Most salons offer this service –and it’s free!
  • Save that color.  Don’t wash after coloring!  Wait 24-48 hours to wash your hair after you’ve had it highlighted or colored.  The natural oils will help your new hue last longer.
