First of all I have a ton of respect for the people at General Mills. I was lucky enough to go to the General Mills Headquarters last year with several other select Bloggers to attend a Table Talk session. Everyone there is so friendly and they really wanted our opinions when it came to certain ideas and products. I can not rave enough about how awesome General Mills is. They really are an amazing company!
General Mills has announced that they are going to further reduce the sugar in cereal. Cereals that are advertised to kids 12 and under will be reduced to single digit grams of sugar per serving. I love this because there are so many cereals that are packed full of sugar! I have always been a cereal lover…I especially like it as a late night snack myself.
Here are a few facts just in case you didn’t know:
- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day (we all know that right?)
- Cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters
- Ready-to-eat cereals, including pre-sweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children’s diets
- Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child’s diet today
- More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures
